Kindergarten

Kindergarten at HCA is the bridge between Preschool and Elementary school.  It’s a safe space where our little learners can be free to explore, play, and learn while constantly building on new skills and understanding.  Students are eligible to apply for admission to HCA’s Kindergarten the year they are 5 by August 31st.  All incoming Kindergarten students are screened with the Ages & Stages developmental assessment, and screened for readiness by one of our loving Early Education teachers.

Our kindergarten is a full-day educational program that runs Monday through Friday. Each day, your child will be engaged in hands-on activities that lay the groundwork for all future learning. Core subjects, enrichment classes, recess, lunch, and special events create a strong academic foundation during this critical year.

We’ve built a flexible program that gives preschoolers the continuity they need while also creating space and support for children transitioning to their first classroom experience. No matter where your child is coming from, we will help them flourish!!!!

What Makes HCA’s Kindergarten Special

Small Class

Our Kindergarten class caps at 15 students to maximize the love and support our early educators provide.

Christ-Centered Education

Our Kindergarten program is rooted in a Christ-centered approach that nurtures each child’s heart and mind. We integrate biblical values into daily learning.

Stimulating Environment

HCA’s Kindergarten offers a vibrant, hands-on learning environment where curiosity is encouraged and young minds are engaged through creative activities, exploration, and purposeful play.

Outdoor Certified Nature Explore Playspace

HCA’s Kindergarten features a certified Nature Explore outdoor classroom designed to inspire wonder, creativity, and active learning. Children connect with God’s creation through open-ended play, exploration, and discovery.

Gentle Transitions into Academic Learning

Our teacher models daily routines, procedures, and expectations to help your child transition into a learning environment that focuses more on academics. Curriculum is introduced slowly at the beginning of the year to allow extra time for social development and play.

Building the Foundation for Lifelong Learning

Foundational skills are practiced and mastered over time, and children begin the journey of learning how to become learners in a classroom environment!

Reading Buddies Program

Kindergarteners are paired with older students to enjoy reading together, fostering a love for books, building literacy skills, and creating meaningful cross-grade friendships.

Team Time

Starting in Term 2, Kindergarten students join weekly sessions with Grades 1 and 2 to collaborate, socialize, and build confidence through shared activities and teamwork.

Weekly Chapel Gathering

Kindergarteners join the entire K-8 student body, faculty, and staff each week for chapel, fostering community, spiritual growth, and shared worship.

Enriching Learning Experiences

Kindergarten students have regular opportunities to use technology in the classroom and participate weekly in Library, Art, Music, Theater, and PE classes, nurturing creativity and well-rounded development.

Kindergarten Learning Foundations: Preparing for First Grade Success

In Kindergarten at HCA, learners practice letter identification and formation; build on those letters to create words; identify and write numbers and shapes; learn addition and subtraction concepts; understand time as they utilize a clock and calendar, and even become experts on the lifecycle of a butterfly!  HCA Kindergarten students learn the same concepts that the Elementary and Middle School students are learning, but at their own pace and level of understanding.  By the time they complete Kindergarten, these little learners are ready for the adventure of 1st grade!
